Free Range Eggs
MisFit Farm offers farm fresh free range eggs. Our layers are fed organic feeds with no GMO added corn or soy. Our girls spend the day free ranging the farm where they feast on grass, bugs and everything natural. In the evenings they return to their coop to roost and rest. The coop includes sanitary commercial grade nesting box and is rubber matted and heated. During the winter months the roost contains a photo cell to mimic the longer hours of summer to ensure egg production throughout the year. Commonly referred to as "Easter Eggs" our clients love the myriad egg colors our girls produce. From the highly sought after dark chocolate colored eggs from our rare Copper Marans, to the blue eggs from our Ameraucana hens, no two dozen are exactly the same.
Farm Fresh vs. Store Bought
The main difference between farm fresh eggs vs store bought eggs is the taste. Store bought eggs generally have a much blander taste than that of fresh eggs. Not only are the farm fresh yolks brighter, they are much creamier than commercial eggs. Farm fresh eggs have four times more omega fatty acids than store bought eggs and half the cholesterol. They are also six times higher in beta carotene. This image is a superb example of a true farm fresh, free range egg and a typical store bought egg. Notice the difference in the yolk offering a healthy deep red rust color which is packed with vitamins and nutrients. The pale, watery yolk of the store bought egg is typical of a bird that lives in confined conditions with no access to free range and is typical of a bird that is sick and/or anemic.
Farm fresh eggs contain...
1/3 less cholesterol
1/4 less saturated fat
2/3 more vitamin A
4 times more omega-3 fatty acids
3 times more Vitamin E
6 times more beta carotene
4-6 times more vitamin D than commercial eggs!

The chicken that you buy at your local grocery store comes from CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations). The chicken is in tight confinement, fed copious amounts of feed with antibiotics to ward off disease, which is common, and hormones for rapid growth. This keeps YOUR cost down, but they aren't healthy birds to eat. Farm fresh pasture-raised poultry contains 21% less fat, 30% less saturated fat, and 50% more Vitamin A than conventionally raised broilers.
Pasture-fed chicken contains significantly higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids than chickens raised without access to fresh forage. One study found significantly higher levels of four different omega-3 fatty acids in farm fresh birds. MisFit Farm meat birds are purchased as 2 day old chicks and are immediately put into a brooder where organic food and fresh water are given daily. At four weeks of age they are transitioned into our coop where they are allowed to free range along side our layers. In addition to their natural free range food they are supplied a highly nutritious organic broiler food which is formulated specifically for the fast growth of a meat bird.
